Smith Haughey Rice & Roegge wants you to know—we want you to know us.
We design our summer associate program to expose law students to as much of the firm as possible, so that they can make a truly informed decision about their next step down the professional path.
Throughout the summer, Smith Haughey assigns projects to ensure that summer associates explore the firm, its members, and multiple practice areas. During frequent meetings, the hiring partner coordinates summer associate schedules to provide the them with opportunities to attend and observe hearings, lay and expert depositions, mediations, client meetings, and trials. The hiring partner also serves as a mentor, answering questions, providing feedback and facilitating assimilation of the summer associate within the firm.
With the exception of our participation in the Grand Rapids Minority Clerkship Program, Smith Haughey’s summer associate program is for students who will have completed their second year of law school at the time they begin the program. We hold interviews during the months of August and September and call-back interviews during October, with offers made immediately following. The program begins in May and ends in August. All summer associates participate in an exit interview at the end of the summer. Upon completion of those interviews, the hiring committee convenes to make associate hiring decisions for the following year.
At Smith Haughey Rice & Roegge, we are always looking for good people. Prospective summer associates may send their cover letter and resume to our hiring partner, William L. Henn.
