Summer Associates Join Smith Haughey
Grand Rapids, Mich., June 7, 2011 - Smith Haughey is pleased to announce that three law school students have joined the firm's Grand Rapids office as Summer Associates. While at Smith Haughey, Peter Afendoulis, Matthew Baciak, and Karen Krogman, will have an opportunity to work on projects for multiple attorneys and practice areas and will also have opportunities to attend and observe hearings, lay and expert depositions, mediations, client meetings, and trials.
About the Summer Associates
Peter Afendoulis is pursuing a Juris Doctor at the University of Toledo College of Law with an expected graduation date of May 2012. Peter's law school accolades include serving as an associate member of the Law Review. He previously earned a Bachelor's degree in chemistry from Kalamazoo College. His professional experience includes serving as a clerk for Presiding Judge Thomas Osowik of the Sixth District Ohio Court of Appeals.
Matthew Baciak is pursuing a Juris Doctor at Notre Dame Law School with an expected graduation date of May 2012. Matthew's law school accolades include winning the Best Oral Argument; participating in 1L Moot Court Competition, ABA Client Counseling Competition, Small Business Pro Bono Project, and GALILEE public interest immersion program; serving as Vice President of Operations of the Business Law Forum; and as a member of the International Law Society and Phi Alpha Delta. He previously earned a Bachelor's degree with honors, cum laude, in both philosophy and political science at Albion College. His professional experience includes serving as a clerk for The Honorable Judge Patrick Meter of the Michigan Court of Appeals and as a research assistant at Notre Dame Law School.
Karen Krogman is pursuing a Juris Doctor at Michigan State University College of Law with an expected graduation date of May 2012. Karen's law school accolades include Law Review, Best Oralist - Section 010 All-School Appellate Oral Argument Competition, Best Cross Examination - All-School Trial Moot Court Competition, top group project - Civil Procedure I, 1L Representative - Student Bar Association and Student Ambassador Program. She previously earned a Bachelor's degree in public affairs with high distinction and a major in public management from Indiana University. Her pervious professional experience includes serving as a law clerk at both the Cook County State's Attorney Office - Juvenile Protection Division and the Blake Horwitz Law Firm, and as an intern at the Essig Law Office.
