Wilson Joins Smith Haughey as Of Counsel
The law firm of Smith Haughey Rice and Roegge (SHRR) is pleased to announce that Patrick J. Wilson has joined the firm as Of Counsel.
Pat brings with him more than 40 years of experience serving clients in the areas of business, real estate, probate and estate planning, and non-profit law. He chose to leave his own thriving law firm and to join SHRR because of the extensive new resources, research capabilities, and expertise SHRR can offer his clients. SHRR's Traverse City roster includes 23 attorneys.
"I feel very fortunate to join such an active, diverse, and collegial group of attorneys," says Wilson.
Robert Parker, the Traverse City office managing partner and a shareholder with SHRR, returns the compliment. "We are honored to have such an esteemed attorney as Pat join our firm. His professional reputation and tireless commitment and service to our local community match the values we admire at Smith Haughey."
Pat received his Bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in 1957. He was president of the senior class and played four years of varsity football (Rose Bowl-1956) and basketball (Final Four-1957). After graduation, Captain Wilson spent the next four years in the United States Army as a pilot and pilot instructor in Korea.
Pat graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1963 and relocated to Traverse City in 1963 to work for a local law firm (1963-98). Most recently, Pat was a partner with his daughter, Shelley, in the firm, Wilson & Kester (1998-2004).
Pat's public service appointments have included Trustee, Michigan State University (1983-88), the State of Michigan Board of Ethics, and the State Officers Compensation Commission. An active community citizen, Pat has served as President of the Grand Traverse/Leelanau/Antrim Bar Association and President of the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce. He was honored as Traverse City's Distinguished Citizen of the Year in 1998.
Currently, Pat serves on the Boards of Munson Corporate Healthcare, the Art and Mary Schmuckal Family Foundation, and the Traverse City Golf and Country Club.
Pat and his wife, Sharalee, have five children and eleven grandchildren. Pat still finds time to play golf (8 handicap) in his spare time.
